Note: This course can be presented as an Evening course in 9 sessions, 3 hours/ session, subject to demand.

Maximum number to attend: 16

Presenter: Delivered by trainers with third level qualifications and extensive teaching experience in the areas of Environmental Engineering and Building Services.

Details: This is an intensive course while at the same time being highly interactive and sympathetic to the needs of participants. The course will include the following elements:

  • Introduction to EPBD, Building Regulations, BER and DEAP and to DEAP software.
  • Obtaining, understanding and entering data necessary for a BER calculation (theory + practice in extracting basic information from specifications).
  • Heat loss assessments and calculations in respect of doors, floors, roofs, walls and windows: theory + practice in using DEAP software.
  • Energy input assessments and calculations in respect of both space and water heating, including heating using renewable energy, the effect of lights. Efficiencies of heating systems, types of controls, seasonal factors etc. and their affect on BER calculations.

Note: Students will be expected to commit the necessary amount of their own time in establishing their familiarity with factual information and with operating DEAP software. This is a level 6 course within the National Framework of Qualifications and will need students to commit a substantial amount of home study time to achieve the required standard of learning.

Assessments: Participants will be assessed by Daralinn Health & Safety in accordance with FETAC Specification C60262 and entered for FETAC moderation and certification. The bases for this will be 3 practical assignments and an examination which is part written, part practical.

Certification: The FETAC certificate awarded to successful participants will allow them to apply to Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEI) for registration as Building Energy Rating Assessors. As FETAC certification must be obtained before applying to SEI, and as FETAC summer assessment is taking place in May 2008, candidates will need to attend Spring Courses to allow SEI registration during 2008.
